5 DO's when using an Encouragement System

ree

It is helpful to see what we do correctly as well as times where we are less effective. Here are 5 tips to increase and improve compliant behaviors with your children!

  1. Be Specific and describe behaviors.

  2. Be Short. Use fewer words to clarify expectations.

  3. Be Sincere. Use positive encouragement, body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice.

  4. Be Clear. Make directions realistic and do-able for your children.

  5. Be Consistent.

Questions you can ask yourself to identify additional ways for your children to be successful.

  1. Have you gone over the pro-social behaviors we are working on with your children so that they know what is to be expected?

  2. Do your children know the tokens and where to find their encouragement board?

  3. Have your children picked desirable incentives to identify what they are earning tokens towards?

  4. What other ways can you set your child up for success and "set the stage" for increased compliance?

  5. What are some barriers that you can remove to make it easier for your child to be successful?

  6. What would be some challenges or obstacles that your child might come across that would inhibit completion of directions?

  7. Can you remove any identified obstacles?

This weekend, see if you can try to improve one of these skills. Are there any answers to the questions above that you have already answered? Let me know!
